Yesaya 18:7

18:7 At that time

tribute will be brought to the Lord who commands armies,

by a people that are tall and smooth-skinned,

a people that are feared far and wide,

a nation strong and victorious,

whose land rivers divide. ¹ 

The tribute ²  will be brought to the place where the Lord who commands armies has chosen to reside, on Mount Zion. ³ 

Yehezkiel 20:40

20:40 For there on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the sovereign Lord, all the house of Israel will serve me, all of them ⁴  in the land. I will accept them there, and there I will seek your contributions and your choice gifts, with all your holy things.

Yehezkiel 43:27

43:27 When the prescribed period is over, ⁵  on the eighth day and thereafter the priests will offer up on the altar your burnt offerings and your peace offerings; ⁶  I will accept you, declares the sovereign Lord.”

3:10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, ⁷ 

those who pray to me ⁸  will bring me tribute.

[18:7]  ³ tn Heb “to the place of the name of the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts], Mount Zion.”

[43:27]  ⁵ tn Heb “and they will complete the days.”

[43:27]  ⁶ sn The people also could partake of the food of the peace offering (Lev 3).

[3:10]  ⁷ tn Or “Nubia”; Heb “Cush.” “Cush” is traditionally assumed to refer to the region south of Egypt, i.e. Nubia or northern Sudan, referred to as “Ethiopia” by classical authors (not the more recent Abyssinia).

[3:10]  ⁸ tn Heb “those who pray to me, the daughter of my dispersed ones.” The meaning of the phrase is unclear. Perhaps the text is corrupt at this point or a proper name should be understood. For a discussion of various options see Adele Berlin, Zephaniah (AB 25A), 134-35.

[3:10]  sn It is not certain if those who pray to me refers to the converted nations or to God’s exiled covenant people.
